Dr. Ann L. Mclver
Ann L. McIver, O.D. graduated from Marietta High School in 1985, and is thrilled to open her practice in her hometown. She is the daughter of Jack and India McIver, who also owned their own business in Marietta, Love County Abstract Company, before they retired in the mid-1990's. The youngest of five children, she decided to be an "eye doctor" soon after an accident when she was 7 years old, when she was hit in the eye by a BB. Luckily, no permanent damage occurred, though she did spend several days in the hospital and had surgery on her eye to repair bleeding in her eye. Dissection projects in high school biology convinced her that surgery was not in her future, so she focused on becoming an optometrist.
After graduating at the top of her class from high school, she attended the University of Oklahoma and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 1989. She was accepted into the Northeastern State University College of Optometry in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1990, and graduated magna cum laude in 1994. Dr. McIver worked for the Chickasaw Nation Health System at the Ardmore Clinic from 1994 to 2003, where she was Clinic Director of the Optometry Department and served as Chairman of the Head Start Health Care Committe for the Ardmore Chickasaw Head Start Program. During her employment there, Dr. McIver specialized in treating and co-managing patients with various stages of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Each summer she spoke to patients and their families about diabetic eye disease at a camp organized by the Chickasaw Nation to educate more people about diabetes. She also worked with optometry students from various colleges around the country, helping them further their education and gain more experience before graduation.
Dr. McIver is single, and the proud owner of two dogs, Buster and Bo, who have no idea they aren't small, furry children. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her dogs, reading mysteries and spending time with her friends.
